The show is finally up, and last night was the opening night! Everything looked great, and it felt amazing to see how busy it was, and to watch people walking up to my work and engaging with it. I’m so proud of myself, and everyone on my course.

These are the samples I wove this week (perhaps the last samples I’ll weave at uni - scary!) and they were very slow to do. The warp is lambswool and the weft is merino, which is very fine, hence why they took so long, around 4-5 hours each. This structure is one I tried out at the very beginning of this project, way back in January, and have wanted to experiment with some colour through it ever since. I’m so glad I squeezed it in, with a week to spare because it’s a structure I really like. It is also the same structure I used to weave my blankets, but simply because my weft yarns were so different (white wool 4/5 versus worsted merino 2/36) they look completely different. I think this is a great feature for my collection however, because even though they look so different they are linked together.

Today’s successful weaving! Honeycomb structure on a Dobby loom, 12 shafts straight draft. Used Geelongora yarn (75% lambswool, 25% angora), I intend it to be a blanket or throw, it’ll be so soft and snuggly :)

Seersucker. This was so difficult; the amount of broken threads I had to fix was unbelievable, it took forever. Such a shame because it looks so effective. You have to fiddle with the tension though to get the puckered effect, which is why some areas have become more puckered than others.

Pointed Draft. I designed the lifting pattern myself. I produced it on a Dobby loom, the warp is cotton and the weft is the same cotton at the bottom, wool in the middle and some coloured cotton at the top.
